Woodmoor Crew

This Crew was removed in early July this year. It was there first year residing in the column. Notice the abandoned hornet’s nest next to the colony on the right. The homeowner had previously noticed some shifting and cracking in the stone and mortar. So he had someone lined up for a partial overhaul of the design. Due to the load bearing wood, it was a tight squeeze to remove the colony. We always take extra precautions to not lose bees or comb to the bottom of the pillar, so we set up a plastic drop. It catches any bees or comb that might become dislodged before we can get hands on them. I wonder how the bees took to having a night light in the colony every night? It didn’t seem to prevent them from integrating the wiring as part of there home.
