This seasons weather has kicked swarm season off in high fashion. Interesting enough the first couple of swarms I went to wrangle had multiple queens in them, and one even had a dead queen on the ground. I couldn’t figure out why the swarm I put in the box (that stayed there) still had a ball of bees on the soffit, and some bees on the driveway. After some investigating, I found a dead queen on the driveway surrounded by three handful of bees. I guess her pheromone was still so strong they decided not to leave her yet? But why not join the other Queen right swarm in the box or the Queen right swarm still on the soffit? I am sure they would have eventually. I believe this swarm started with three different clusters and queens. With the chaos of me wrangling them and two having greater pheromones, we were left with two. Still don’t quite understand what happen to the other queen. Was it the mother queen they killed? Did I injury one of the queens in the process? This is one of the many things I love about beekeeping the mysteries, human unexplainable events, and the daily learning (with the curves):)
