I have been getting a lot of calls about removing yellow jackets, hornets, and wasps lately. I personally find these bees’ stings much worse than a honey bee sting. More irritable, itchy, and they seem to swell larger.
This particular paper-mache nest was about twenty feet high. After making a scraper to knock it down (paint roller pole extender, scraper, and duct tape) I got geared up to take it down.
I had never seen the inside of a wasp nest, so the first thing that caught my eye were the larvae (developing wasp) moving around like a worm in some cells. It was also interesting to see the similarity of their cell size compared to honey bees.
I will be doing more research to find out how they produce this paper to make their nest.
